On December 6, 2011, proposed revisions to Rule 690-170.0155, Florida Administrative Code, was approved by the Florida Service Commission. The rule incorporated and adopted revisions to the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form.
The new form is OIR-B1-1802 (Rev.01/12), and is effective February 1, 2012. Wind Mitigation Inspections and re-inspections on or after the 1st of February will be required to use this more detailed form. The new form comes with various changes that require the Inspector to use more due diligence when conducting the inspection, and report more details of components then the previous version.
Since the new form requires inspectors to conduct more research about the roof materials and property permits, it is in the homeowner’s best interest to have proper documentation available. Documentation such as, but not limited to: permits for shutters, and either a new roof or re-roof, and Notice of Acceptance (NOA) for Exterior Opening Protection.
Some form changes allow for discounts that homeowners would not have qualified for on the previous form. For example, the separation of high impact windows from all other entrances (i.e. garage) may qualify for extra discounts.
Some other helpful tips for home owners are: Inspect your homes windows or your records to determine when they were installed.
